Masato Matsuura, Japan - Audrey Evalaum, France



Masato Matsuura trained in Noh theatre with Master Tetsunojyo KANZE VIII and was “Uchi Deshi “(live-in apprentice) from 1988 to 1992 and performed with different theatres in Japan, including the National Noh theatre.  He also trained in Karate, sword fighting Itto Ryu Kenjutsu, and Iaijutsu and modern Kendo. 
In 2000, he trained in sword fighting at Niten school in Tokyo,and Aiki jyujitsu (origin of Aikido) with Master Daittoryu Yoshimaru Keisetsu, and also Tai Chi in Tokyo. 
In 2006, Mastsurra founded the school SAYU and LES DEUX SPIRALES dojo in Paris, France, where he is currently based.  He offers master classes for actors, dancers and musicians to help improve their techniques, corporal movement and vocal expression. He has taught and performed throughout Europe, Africa and Asia. 





Audrey Marquis is an interpreter, a teacher, and a researcher. She is keen on exploring the various forms of theatricality. She is interested in the performing of presence in dance, drama and literature, both traditional and modern.
She had an early training in classical, modern and contemporary dance. She ran her own dance company until 2003. She was also trained in drama and attended classes at Paris’s National Academy of Drama. This led her to act in classical and contemporary plays for the stage. In addition, she earns a Master’s Degree in Theory of Performing Arts from EHESS. She also teaches French literature and Humanities.
She met Masato Matsuura in 2012 and became one of his disciples in Nô theater, Kenjutsu and Aïki. She currently works as his assistant for conferences, exhibitions, workshops, master-classes in France and abroad.

 
Workshop – Noh
 
Noh is a japanese traditional theater art existing since 14 century, composed of  dance and song, in which an actor plays with mask. Because of Zen influence, it is very minimalist  with strength.
 
In this workshop, we will introduce the main axes: 
Preparation - how to relax the body
Position of Noh Danser - Floating Body standing between sky and earth
Walk: Sliding Steps walk in line
Mai: Noh Choreography 
Utai: Song of Noh in Japanese
