Julie Fishell, N. Carolina U.S.A.


 
Julie Fishell is an award-winning Teacher, Actor and Director. Ms. Fishell graduated from The Juilliard Drama Division where she received the Michel and Suria St. Denis Prize for Outstanding Artistic Achievement.  She has appeared Off-Broadway, Regionally and with National and International Tours.  Select productions: Private Lives (Amanda), August:  Osage County (Barbara), Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Martha), The Tempest (Prospero), Happy Days (Winnie), All My Sons (Kate), Othello (Emilia), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Bottom).  Professional affiliations: Actor’s Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild, National Alliance of Acting Teachers. Directing includes Mad Forest, The Cherry Orchard, NC Women’s Prison Writing and Performance Project, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sophocles’ Antigone, Translations, Urinetown, Mahoganny Songspiel and The Seven Deadly Sins.
 
Ms. Fishell is the recipient of the Tanner Teaching Award as well as the Johnston Award for Excellence in Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Professor of Acting and Directing and Resident Acting Specialist with PlayMakers Repertory Company (LORT). 
 
The Only Thing We Know is What Just Happened.
 
This workshop will focus on an ever-present paradox: to know, as the actor, the facts both real and imagined of a specific world in order to live, as the character, in ignorance of a majority of these facts. To that end, class participants will explore strategies to Recognize, Cultivate and Apply impulsive responses that build a progressive, immersive journey in performance.
 
Devised and scripted material will focus our work. 
 
Please wear clothing that provides freedom of movement and, if possible, bring a floor mat or towel for warm-ups.
Please prepare a short selection of text that is meaningful to you.  Poems, songs, monologues/duologues are most helpful.
